Calling for cordial relationship between doctors and patients, Minister for Handlooms and Textiles S. Sundararaj has appealed to the doctors to treat the patients with a human touch.
Addressing the Hospital Day celebrations at the Government headquarters hospital here recently, the Minister, who himself is a physician, said doctors should have kind words for the patients and the latter should also treat the doctors as their family members.
Referring to incidents of public ransacking hospitals and attacking doctors, alleging wrong treatment, he said this kind of unsavoury incidents could be averted if the doctor-patient relationship was a healthy one.
The Minister who launched the digital radiography facility, installed in the hospital at a cost of Rs 1.2 crore said public who visited the hospital should keep the premises clean and help the authorities provide high quality treatment.
Commending the services of doctors and para-medical staff, the Minister said the hospital topped other district headquarters hospitals in providing quality treatment to the people with CT scan, digital x-ray and other advanced facilities. The hospital has conducted a record 1,350 cataract surgeries and its pharmacy has emerged as a model pharmacy in the State, he said. The hospital has bagged the second prize at the State level for enabling 90 per cent delivery cases to undergo family planning surgeries, he added.
The Minister thanked the Ramanthapuram Municipality for installing a high mast light inside the hospital at a cost of Rs 10 lakh and deputing its sanitary workers, twice a week to clean the hospital premises.
Hospital Superintendent A. Kalilur Rahman in his annual report said during the last 11 months, this 422 bedded hospital had received 5.43 lakh outpatients and 1.29 lakh inpatients. The hospital has conducted 5,735 major and 12,565 minor surgeries during the period.
