Rajya Sabha member and former Attorney General K. Parasaran has said that funds allotted under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) should not be spent for religious purposes.
India being the pluralistic country, the authorities should ensure that funds under the scheme should be spent only for social and secular purposes, the octogenarian said, addressing a public contact camp after adopting Tiruppullani village, near here, recently.
Stressing the point that funds under SAGY should be spent for social, secular and health purposes, he said no leakage of even one paisa should be allowed in the scheme.
Mr. Parasaran, a native of Srirangam, said there was no particular reason for selecting Tiruppullani, famous for the Adi Jagannatha Perumal Temple on the outskirts of Ramanathapuram town, for adoption under SAGY.
In the public contact programme, people of the village presented petitions seeking road and other basic amenities, a laboratory, computer room and compound wall for the Government higher secondary school.
New building
They also sought a new building for the primary school and deepening of five ‘ooranies,’ compound wall for the primary health centre and a high mast light at the entrance.
A. Palani, Project DirectorRamanathapuram District Rural Development Agency; panchayat union chairperson K. Rajeswari; and Tiruppullani panchayat president Munisamy, among others, were present at the public contact programme.
