Handloom weavers in Chinnalapatti were jubilant over the announcement of a special scheme for them in the election manifesto of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The DMK assured to offer 200 units of free power to the weavers. While distributing sweets among themselves, weavers in Anna Nagar, one of the prime clusters of handloom weavers in the town, said that their appeal for free power made to Mr. Stalin during his visit to the town as part of his ‘Namakku Naame’ programme, was recognised and included in the election manifesto. The weavers in other areas of the town too welcomed the announcement. Fifty units of free power was offered by DMK during its previous rule, they recalled.
