The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) student wing will carry out a signature campaign in city colleges and among people to rally against the government's decision to relocate Anna Centenary Library.
In a statement, the DMK student wing secretary Ela. Pugazhendi said the signature campaign would be carried out for a week from November 21 to rally support to let Chief Minister Jayalalithaa know peoples' sentiments against shifting the ACL from its premises in Kotturpuram.
Already, scholars, writers, teachers and students had voiced against the relocation of the ACL, one of the largest public library in the continent and protest meetings against this move was also increasing, he said.
Architects had also expressed opinion that redesign of the library as a paediatric hospital as announced by the AIADMK government would require demolition of several floors.
The Madras High Court has stayed the shifting of the library as a result of political vendetta, he charged.
The DMK's youth wing also announced a State-wide protest on November 15 condemning the government for sacking 13,000 village welfare workers. Party treasurer M.K. Stalin will lead the protest meeting in front of Chennai Collectorate.
