Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss said here on Wednesday that it was “funny” that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) called for a bandh on the farmers’ plight despite being responsible for it.

Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss said that the DMK failed to renew in 1974 the agreement that was entered into in 1924 between the State of Mysore and State of Madras on Cauvery water sharing. The DMK also remained a spectator when Karnataka built three dams between 1971 and 1974 across River Cauvery. The PMK leader also held the DMK responsible for the hydrocarbon project at Neduvasal.

At a function to felicitate PMK founder S. Ramadoss for approaching the Supreme Court to close Tasmac shops on highways, Dr. Anbumani pointed out that the court had ordered the closure of 3,321 Tasmac shops functioning within 500 metres of national and state highways in Tamil Nadu and 90,000 shops across the country.

Welcoming the women’s protest at various places in the State against relocating Tasmac shops from highways to interior areas, Dr. Anbumani said that they should have shown this courage in the last election instead of electing a corrupt government.

He called upon the people to keep both the Dravidian parties out of power.

Dr. S. Ramadoss alleged that people associated with both the DMK and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were manufacturing liquor that affected the lives of women. More than half of the 5.78 crore voters in the State were women. If they had stood by the PMK in the last elections, all the liquor shops would have been closed.

On the political happenings in the State, Dr. Anbumani said all were ashamed of the drama enacted in the State every day. “It is like a tele-serial”.

G.K. Mani, president of the party, K. Balu, president of the PMK’s legal wing and other leaders were present.
