DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan has written to the Prime Minister urging him to direct the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Union Public Service Commission to recall the appointment of T.K. Rajendran as Director-General of Police/Head of Police Force, Tamil Nadu.

Incidentally, the Madras High Court is hearing a petition filed by Mr. Anbazhagan seeking a CBI probe into the multi-crore gutkha scam in which he has alleged that Mr. Rajendran is a recipient of bribe.

In his letter to the PM, Mr. Anbazhagan alleged that after former DGP Ashok Kumar quit service under “mysterious circumstances”, the State government by “suppression of material and vital facts” recommended the name of Mr. Rajendran for empanelment by the UPSC and consideration to the top post.

Alleging that Mr. Rajendran’s name figured among the beneficiaries of the gutkha scam as revealed in certain records seized from the manufacturer of MDM brand of gutkha, he said this was brought to the notice of the then Chief Secretary and the DGP by the I-T Department. However, while recommending Mr. Rajendran for the top post, the then Home Secretary, Niranjan Mardi, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan and CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami “conspired and acted in tandem” to suppress this, he claimed.

Seeking action against those responsible for suppressing vital information, the MLA sought a probe by the CBI into the scam and recalling the appointment of Mr. Rajendran as DGP.
