DMK MLA upset over late information

Taking part in the inauguration of new facilities at Government Vellore Medical College Hospital (GVMCH) on Friday, DMK’s Member of Legislative Assembly of Anaicut constituency A. P. Nandhakumar expressed unhappiness of not being informed of the event early.

“I had no information of this programme till 5 p.m. on Thursday. It should be ensured that such things do not recur. Opposition party MLAs should be invited for government programmes. I urge the Collector and Ministers to advise your officers that we should be invited,” he said. Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar, Commercial Taxes Minister K. C. Veeramani and Labour Minister Nilofer Kafeel were present at the programme. He put forth certain demands on the occasion.

He said though people from various parts of Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts visited the GVMCH, it lacked adequate drinking water facility. “The Cauvery Combined Water Supply Scheme should be brought to this area,” he said. He also urged the Health Minister to start super speciality departments such as cardiology at GVMCH.

He urged the Minister to take steps to make the Government Pentland Hospital functional round-the-clock. “The Government Hospital at Anaicut has been upgraded but there are very few doctors. New doctors should be appointed and better facilities should be put in place,” he said.
