The number of unemployed youths who have landed jobs through the job fairs organised by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in six districts across the State so far has touched 1.05 lakhs.
About 35,470 candidates secured jobs at the sixth district level job fair, Kalaignar 86, which concluded at Tiruchi on Sunday. The candidature of another 15,000 youths have been taken up for the next stage of processing by various participating companies, announced Kanimozhi, MP, who has been the moving force behind the job fairs.
The job fair at Tiruchi turned out to be a huge draw with over 1.25 lakh registrations. About 29,000 candidates turned up on day one, meant for Group A comprising graduates and post graduates, including engineering and technology candidates. About 13,890 candidates appeared under Group B on the second day meant for ITI and diploma holders, D.Pharm and catering technology candidates. On the final day, nearly 26,500 candidates turned up, with qualifications from standard VIII to Plus Two.
With 20,000 persons securing jobs under Group C candidates, this formed the single largest chunk of successful applicants. Under Group A, 6,450 candidates have got job offers while 10,893 candidates would go for the next stage of processing by the companies. Under Group B, 9,021 candidates were successful and another 3,425 were awaiting final results as their applications have been taken up for processing. Nearly 500 companies participated in the fair.
On feedback from companies on the quality of the talent pool available here, Ms. Kanimozhi said, “The companies were generally happy. Candidates from rural and semi-urban areas could as well match their urban counterparts.”
The job fair at Tiruchi attracted the largest turnout by far both in terms of candidates and the participating companies and correspondingly the number of candidates who had landed jobs were also high, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu said.
Ms. Kanimozhi assured that they would follow up on the applications that have been taken up for the next stage of processing. “We have the entire data base computerised and we will be in touch with the companies and the candidates,” she said.
An Information Centre, which she declared open earlier in the day at the Kalaignar Arivalayam in the city, would keep updating information on job opportunities. A soft skills training centre has also been planned by the district unit of the party.
Earlier, handing over the offer letters to successful candidates at a brief concluding ceremony, Ms. Kanimozhi congratulated the youths and commended the dedicated work of the partymen, Fr. Bosco, coordinator, and his team for making the event a success.
Transport Minister K.N. Nehru, Forest Minister N. Selvaraj and Fr. Bosco were among those who felicitated the successful candidates.
