DMK functionary's plea for bail dismissed

June 28, 2013 02:32 pm | Updated 02:32 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The Principal Sessions Court on Thursday dismissed a bail petition filed by Karl Marx, a DMK functionary arrested on the charges of sedition for making a provocative speech against Chief Minister Jayalaithaa.

The city police arrested Karl Marx (65) last Friday in Thanjavur after she issued a death threat to the Chief Minister at a public meeting here. She was charged under Section 124-A (sedition) and 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) of IPC.

Dismissing her bail petition, G.Chockalingam, Principal Sessions Judge noted that the prosecution had alleged that she had spoken against the Chief Minister as well as the government. She had spoken about becoming a human bomb at a meeting in which the Chief Minister participates. Her interview was published in a magazine. Thus, there was a prima facie case against her.
