DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Saturday accused the public sector oil companies of hiking the price of petroleum products without taking into consideration its repercussions in society.

In a statement here, he said the hike in petroleum products would have a direct bearing on the price of essential commodities and the poor and middle classes were the victims.

He likened the frequent hike in petroleum products to the frequent attacks on Tamil fishermen by the Sri Lankan Navy.

“Political leaders will condemn whenever there is an attack on the fishermen. But there is no let-up in the attacks and the governments in Sri Lanka and India never bothered about the attacks. It is the same case with the hike in price of petroleum products,” he said.
