DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Friday launched a campaign involving distribution of pamphlets against, what he called, the “misrule” of AIADMK in the State. The party’s original plan was to form a human chain, but the protest was changed after police denied permission.

Beginning his campaign from Gopalapuram, Mr. Karunanidhi said the objective was to tell the people about the failure of the AIADMK government in all fronts. “The State has plunged into darkness because of the power crisis and the spiralling prices of essential commodities have reduced the purchasing capacity of the people. Law and order is completely out of order.”

DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin distributed pamphlets in his Kolathur constituency between 10 am and 1 am.

“After the police denied permission to form a human chain, we decided not to go ahead with the protest as it will cause inconvenience to the general public. People will teach a lesson to this government,” Mr. Karunanidhi said.

The party general secretary, K. Anbazhagan, distributed pamphlets in Villivakkam. Senior party leaders and functionaries distributed similar pamphlets across the State in different places.
