April 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - Tiruvannamalai:

DMK dissident C.Elumalai has chosen to contest as an independent candidate after he was denied ticket by the party.

Soon after the party released the candidates’ list, Mr. Elumalai conducted a huge rally and said that he would contest independently.

Speaking to The Hindu he said that he served in the party for about 35 years and contested the 2001 assembly election in the party ticket and lost.

“Since then the constituency has been allotted to alliance parties. Now, K.V.Sekaran, a junior, is given ticket. I never wanted to contest as independent but people want me to contest.

I am confident of winning and if I win I will decide on my future course according to the situation that arises then,” he said.
