DMK cadre clash; T. R. Baalu assaulted

May 16, 2013 03:29 pm | Updated 03:48 pm IST - THANJAVUR:

Tension prevailed at a marriage hall on Nanjikottai road here on Wednesday when the car of T.R. Baalu, MP and senior leader of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, was attacked by a group of persons. The incident appeared to be related to a running feud between the party’s Thanjavur district secretary and former Union Minister S.S. Palanimanickam and Mr.Baalu.

Mr. Baalu, leader of the DMK Parliamentary party and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railways, came to Thanjavur and attended the marriage of a party functionary.

After the wedding, when he was about to get into his car, a group surrounded his car and attacked it. The front portion was allegedly damaged in the incident. Those who attacked the car were alleged to be the supporters of Mr. Palanimanickam, MP. Mr. Baalu’s supporters intervened and sent him safely in the car. Later, they clashed with Mr. Palanimanickam’s supporters.

At a press conference held recently, Mr. Palanimanickam expressed displeasure over Mr. Baalu's activities in Thanjavur. At the intervention of the party high command, he later expressed regret for his allegations against Mr. Baalu.
