Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) treasurer M.K. Stalin on Monday said the allies would take part in the party’s State conference to be held here on February 15 and 16.
Leaders of the Indian Union Muslim League, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi and the Puthiya Tamizhagam would address the meet, Mr. Stalin told the media after inspecting the works at the conference venue in Pirattiyur.
Asked whether the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) would ally with the DMK before the Tiruchi conference, Mr. Stalin quipped “there is no way that you (referring to the media) will not know if it were to join the alliance.”
Replying to another query, Mr. Stalin said the DMK right now had alliance with some parties and added that its president M. Karunanidhi would decide on expanding the DMK-led front with more parties.
On reports in a section of media that a BJP-DMK alliance would emerge, Mr. Stalin said some media had deliberately planned and released such reports. There was no need for him to reply to such deliberate reports, he said.
Asked what kind of a turning point did the DMK expect from the Tiruchi conference, Mr. Stalin said it would be as per your (again referring to the media) expectations.
Mr. Stalin said DMK president M. Karunanidhi would arrive at Tiruchi a day before the conference and inspect the venue. He said 95 per cent of the works were over and the remaining ones would be completed shortly.
The party would overcome every hurdle and continue steadfastly with its works, he said.
Asked whether the seats were finalised with the allies, he said the DMK had appointed a committee in this regard. The panel would hold talks with the leaders of the allies and convey it to Mr. Karunanidhi who would make an announcement, he added.
Accompanied by DMK district secretary K.N. Nehru and other functionaries, Mr. Stalin inspected the grand stage erected for the conference.
