A frustrated Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are engineering attacks on Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) candidates across the State, PMK Youth Wing leader and Dharmapuri candidate Anbumani Ramadoss alleged here on Saturday.

After filing his nomination papers with District Election Officer K. Vivekanandan, Dr. Anbumani told pressperson that the two parties were frustrated on seeing the growing support for the PMK. Hence, they engineered the attacks on PMK candidates R. Velu in Arakkonam, A.K. Murthy in Arani, Agoram in Mayiladuthurai and Vadivel Ravanan in Nagapattinam constituencies.

The recent one was on Dr. Anbumani’s campaign vehicle near Bethur Colony in Dharmapuri. He asserted that he was a common candidate irrespective of caste or creed.

Alleging a plot to murder him, he recalled that the incident took place just before the vehicle slowed down at a speed breaker near the colony.

The attack was planned to be carried out during the power cut. If the stone that was hurled had hit him, he might have sustained serious injuries.

The PMK did not want to precipitate the issue as it wanted peace, which was needed for Dharmapuri’s development. The district was in 28th place in health, education, industrialisation and other fields. The PMK would strive to put it among the first five in the State.

The State was reeling under severe power crisis because of failure of the State Government. However, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was accusing the Union Government of failure on this front, he said.

Dr. Anbumani said the PMK’s agitations and follow-up led to the implementation of the much-wanted Hogenakkal drinking water scheme for Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts. But, it was yet to reach all the beneficiaries in rural areas.
