September 11, 2013 02:15 am | Updated June 02, 2016 10:57 am IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to DMDK MLA D. Anagai Murugesan in a case relating to the alleged theft of a gold chain. Justice R. Mala granted the relief on a petition by the legislator.

Mr. Murugesan said that on September 2 he went to a hotel at Chromepet and after having snacks he left the place.

He was called for an enquiry by police on a complaint by one Ashok Kumar, who was sitting near his table at the hotel, that his gold chain had been stolen.

He immediately went to the spot and made enquiries with the hotel authorities and Mr. Kumar and it was revealed that the ornament had been found. When the complainant tried to withdraw his complaint, the police informed him that already a case had been registered and there was no possibility of treating the FIR as closed.

Granting anticipatory bail, the judge said the petitioner should execute a bond for Rs.10,000 and furnish two sureties.
