The Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) has appealed to all parties to stand by the government in its endeavour to get Cauvery water for the State.
In a statement, DK president K. Veeramani has recounted how a Tribunal had to be constituted by the Supreme Court for settling the Cauvery dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka and how the Centre had been dithering over gazetting the award given by the Tribunal as early as 2007.
He lamented that the discharge of water into the Cauvery to benefit Tamil Nadu had ceased to be the right of the State. On the other hand, whenever there was surplus for Karnataka, it was releasing water into the Cauvery in a bid to save its dams. “Thus Tamil Nadu has become a drainage outlet (of Karnataka).”
He urged all parties to extend their wholehearted co-operation to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who had written to the Centre seeking early gazetting of the Tribunal award.
