A District Sports Complex will come up at the 7.3-acre playground at the Anupparpalayam Government High School here.

A project of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), the complex will have facilities for outdoor sports like football, hockey, and athletics, among others.

Rooms will be provided for sports persons to change dresses, and take refreshments.

A gallery will be constructed for spectators. As a bonanza for the general public, the SDAT will be setting up a 700m long walker's track too for those who prefer a morning walk, or a jog in a peaceful setting.

M. Ramasubramaniaraja, the District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, told The Hindu that the State Government had sanctioned of Rs. 8 crore for initial expenditure for the complex project.

“The total outlay of the project is being worked out,” he said.

Official sources said that a synthetic track would be laid for athletics and hence, global tender would be floated for the purpose.

“When the track are commissioned, Tirupur will be the fifth place in the State to have synthetic track for athletics,” the sources added.

The students of the Anupparapalayam school need not have to worry that they might lose a huge chunk of their playground for the project.

“We will be allowing them to use all the sports facilities at the complex under the supervision of SDAT officials,” said Mr. Ramasubramaniaraja.
