Director Siddalingaiah dead

Veteran director-producer and one of the pillars of the Kannada film industry, Siddalingaiah, died here at a private hospital on Thursday. He was 79. He was admitted to the hospital for age-related issues. His demise has indeed created a vacuum in the film industry.

Siddalingaiah carved a niche for himself in the eight-decade-old Kannada film industry through his masterpieces — Bangaarada Manushya , Bhootayyana Maga Ayyu , Mayor Muthanna , Doorada Betta , Nyayave Devaru and Hemavathi . He had directed 23 films (including one in Tamil) in his 30-year career.

In most of his earlier films, it was thespian Rajkumar who essayed the lead roles.
