An electric pole in the second street of Muniyasamipuram, a thickly populated area in Thoothukudi, is in a dilapidated condition. Only a skeleton of the pole stands now as a major portion of the concrete has withered, exposing the steel rods.
Repeated pleas by residents for replacing the pole had not been heard so far. Wiremen of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation were reluctant to attend to fuse calls as it was not possible for them to climb up the post, R. Saminathan, a resident, said.
It was now difficult for residents even to complain about voltage fluctuation, K. Selvaraj, another aggrieved resident, said. M. Balasubramanian, councillor, said the pole had not been replaced even after taking up the issue with Tangedco authorities. A new pole had been lying on the street for about a month now. Tangedco sources said action would be taken to replace the old pole at the earliest.
