Differently-abled get swift aid

Collector M. Ravikumar extended a series of benefits to differently-abled persons at a special camp organised here on Saturday. In a span of 10 minutes, a series of welfare measures were provided to 1,008 differently-abled persons at a programme held at St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School in Tuticorin.

Acting swiftly in response to petitions submitted by the differently-abled persons, officials from 15 various departments verified it and gave their nod for helping them. To the delight of the differently-abled persons, who had assembled at the venue, aid and appliances numbering 1,857 were provided.

Beneficiaries were given tricycles, hearing aid, wheel chairs, free bus passes, national identity cards, sewing machines, job cards for self help groups, cards to avail Chief Minister’s comprehensive health insurance benefits, welfare board membership cards, employment registration certificates and other benefits. To cater to the needs of the differently abled persons under one umbrella, officials from departments of Revenue, District Rural Development Agency, Differently Abled Welfare, Adi Dravida and Backward Classes Welfare, Mahalir Thittam, Transport, District Employment office, Supply office and Health rendered their services. The Collector said similar special camps for the differently abled would be organised at various places in the district next month.
