Differently abled people, who are members of the ‘Suya Sakthi Trust’, paid homage to former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam after taking out a procession from Thangachimadam near here on Saturday. Led by J. Thillai Mani, Managing Director of the trust, differently abled persons with callipers and tricycles came in a procession from Dargah bus stop in Thangachimadam and paid floral tributes to Kalam at his burial site in Pei Karumbu.
They placed wreaths at the pedestal of Mr Kalam’s statue. “We wanted to pay our gratitude to Kalam, who helped us to get low weight ortho callipers, on the occasion of his first death anniversary,” he said.
The trust also released this month’s issue of ‘Dharmam Thalaikakkum,’ a monthly magazine, which espoused the cause of differently abled persons, Mr Mani said. The trust helped the differently abled to get national identity Cards, financial assistance from banks and employment and other livelihood means, he said.
It also helped the widows and aged people to get pension, he added.
