AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) leader and former Minister K.P. Munusamy has urged the Election Commission of India (EC) to disqualify AIADMK (Amma) leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran from contesting in elections following alleged evidence of his party bribing a section of voters in the Dr. Radhakrishna Nagar Assembly constituency.
The Election Commission had on Sunday cancelled the byelection to the constituency due to large-scale electoral malpractices.
“The Election Commission should disqualify Dhinakaran. This would become a precedent for the country. Such offences would not happen in the future. The Central government and the Election Commission should bring about legal amendments to curb such offences in the future,” Mr. Munusamy told reporters here.
Mr. Munusamy alleged that it was only because of Mr. Dhinakaran that seven Ministers of the State government were facing allegations of distributing money to voters.
Reacting to the AIADMK (Amma)’s claim that Mr. Dhinakaran would have won if the R.K. Nagar bypoll had been conducted as per schedule, Mr. Munusamy said, “If the byelection was held, their political journey would have come to an end.”
