Salem Railway Division is executing development works in the circulating area at the city bus stand and autorickshaw stand in Salem Railway Junction at an outlay of Rs. 45 lakh to ensure smooth flow of vehicles.

The division has renovated the city bus bay to ensure the entry and exit of buses one-by-one, without creating any traffic bottleneck. The autorickshaw parking area, too, has been remodelled.

The rooms of the Station Manager and Deputy Station Manager are present situated on platform No. three / four. The commuters to air their grievances etc have to proceed to platform 3 / 4 at present. These rooms are being shifted to platform No. 1 so that they could discharge their duty more effectively and commuters could get in touch with them without any difficulty.

Construction of the spacious rooms for both the officials is on. All the above development works at present are moving at a fast pace and will be completed by next month, senior Salem Railway Division sources told The Hindu .

The work on the commissioning of escalator facility in platform No. 1 and platform No. 3 at the Railway Junction, which commenced in the first week of March, is nearing completion. The equipment has already been setup outside the junction premises behind the lift on platform No. 1 and it will be connected to the pedestrian bridge.

The new facility is expected to be commissioned by this month-end, the sources said.

The Railways has also proposed to convert platform five into an island platform and have an escalator installed there, too.
