A dentist, who pursued MDS course in Switzerland and had been running a clinic in Red Hills in Chennai for the last 16 years, was among the three arrested by Red Sanders Taskforce here on Monday.
The role of Dr. Shaktivel, who is a relative of proclaimed smugglers, came to light recently. The dentist, who avoided being seen rubbing shoulders with suspicious elements among his relatives, had a role in smuggling red sanders to Dubai via Thoothukudi port.
He used to visit Dubai and Hong Kong and negotiate deals with buyers.
‘Vaiko’ Ravi of Chennai, who played a key role in introducing the dentist to Kodanda Reddy, the supplier of red sanders logs from Tirupati, was also arrested along with Babu, driver of Kodanda Reddy. Babu had served as driver of smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy.
