Dengue: health officials asked to step up campaign

Even as a few cases of dengue have been reported in some parts, the district administration has directed the Health Department to step up preventing efforts to control the spread of the disease.

Medical teams and mobile clinics had been sent to Krishnarayapuram and Thogamalai blocks, where incidence of fever with the symptoms of dengue was reported over the past few days.

The Deputy Director of Health, Karur, has been asked to take steps to bring the disease under control.

Similarly, the heads of local bodies and officials have been asked to carry out special drives to clean sources of breeding of aedes aegypti mosquitoes which spreads dengue.

Emergency medical camps were held at Perumal Goundampatty, Thondamanginam, Panjapatty, and Kosur on Saturday where several fever cases were reported.

Collector S. Jayandhi, who visited the affected villages and met the people, promised effective steps.

She advised them to cooperate with the authorities in controlling the disease.

Stating that sufficient medicines were stocked in Government Hospitals, Primary Health Centres and so on, she said that there was no need for panic.

“Nilavembu Kudineer”, which helps increasing immunity, had been made available at the medical camps.
