The members of various trade unions staged a demonstration in front of the head post office in the city on Tuesday evening in support of the striking Neyveli Lignite Corporation employees.

They demanded both the Centre and the State Government to intervene immediately and render justice to the striking employees. They also demanded the NLC management to solve the issue through negotiations, reinstate the leaders of the trade unions who have been placed under suspension, and regularise the services of the contract workers as per the court direction.

The members of AITUC, CITU, INTUC, Bharathiya Mazdoor Sangh, Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Labour Progressive Front and other unions participated in the agitation.

The protest was led by M. Munusamy, district secretary, AITUC.
