The employees of the Department of Rural Development staged a demonstration as part of a State-wide agitation for better working conditions, at Anna Statue near New Bus Stand, on Thursday.

Demands

The demonstrators called for filling up of all vacancies, absorption of computer operators currently employed on ad hoc basis, inclusion of computer operators under family welfare benefits and filling up of assistant block development officer (BDO) posts. They also demanded increase in basic pay of office assistants by Rs.400; promotions for road inspectors, supervisors and block engineers; and also drafting of work rules for personal assistants.
