Stating that absence of bus facility to nine villages pose hardship to the people, villagers threatened to boycott the ensuing assembly elections in the district.
Villagers of Manjanaikanur, Vadakupatti and nearby villagers said that there are thousands of people residing in the nine villages. But, in the absence of bus facility, students could not reach their educational institutions on time. Also, farmers cannot carry their produce to the markets.
They said that patients find it difficult to reach the nearby hospitals and have to walk three km to take a bus to hospital.
They said that a mini bus was plying few years ago, but was stopped without intimation. Presently, they have to reach Athiyapampalayam to board the bus and reach Manikampatti Pudur and later reach their destinations. Villagers said that despite many representations to the officials, no action has been taken so far to run bus services to these villages. Hence, they wanted bus services to be run to benefit the villagers failing which they have planned to boycott the elections.
Since the model code of conduct is in place, they dropped their petitions in the box at the collectorate.
