Defunct ATM

May 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 12, 2016 08:12 pm IST

The State Bank of India, Paramakudi, is having a large number of customers and its only ATM functioning opposite the hospital is closed now.

The customers, especially government employees and pensioners, have to approach other banks’ ATM s to withdraw money. I appeal to the SBI to run the ATM properly to provide better service to customers.

V. Rajendran,

Paramakudi.

Fake currency notes

Circulation of fake currency notes in denominations of Rs. 100, 500 and 1,000 is prevalent in all places, including ATMs. Meticulous verification of currency notes during every transaction by customers is not practical. The procedures prescribed by the Reserve Bank of India to be adopted to detect fake notes are not simple. Therefore, there is a need to provide exclusive counters with scanners to detect fake currency notes in every bank to enable customers to leave the premises with satisfaction after their transaction. I appeal to the Reserve Bank of India to direct all commercial banks to provide fake currency detecting machines to minimise circulation of such notes.

K. Somasundaram,

Devakottai.
