The annual budget of Mettur Municipality for the year 2015-16 has registered a deficit of Rs. 2.02 crore.
The proposed expenditure of the municipality has been put at Rs. 13.22 crore and the receipts have been estimated at Rs. 11.20 crore.
The budget was presented at the municipal meeting held on Monday and Lalitha Saravanan, Chairperson, presided.
Initiatives
The municipality will take initiative to make good the deficit by launching various initiatives to augment its revenue.
Effective steps will be taken for collection of all kinds of tax arrears and tax dues for the current year from the residents for the same.
Special drive will be launched in this regard.
Raja, councillor, referred to the implementation of the underground drainage scheme in the town and pleaded for steps for re-laying the streets and roads, where the work of laying the pipes had already been completed.
Ms. Saravanan said that the underground drainage works were launched only recently and is under execution in a few wards.
The roads will be re-laid once the project is completed, she added.
A. Rajendran, Municipal Commissioner in-charge, and K.G. Ramakrishnan, Vice-Chairman, were present.
Councillors raised various civic issues at the meeting.
