Deer rescued from well

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - DINDIGUL:

A two-year-old spotted deer that fell into a farm well at Mambarai village near Oddanchatram was rescued on Tuesday.

Alerted by farm owner Padayappa Gounder, Forest Department officials from Iyyalur and Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Oddanchatram rescued the deer. Later, they released it into the reserve forest.

With acute shortage of water in the reserve forests, wild animals visit villages in the fringe areas for water and feed.

Ground-level wells became a dead trap to these animals, the officials said.

Two sambar deer drowned in a farm well near Kannivadi on Monday.
