Deepa stakes claim to Jayalalithaa’s assets

Questions plan to convert her residence into a memorial

The niece of former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and leader of the MGR Amma Deepa Peravai, J. Deepa, claimed on Friday that the Poes Garden residence of the late Chief Minister belonged to her and her brother Deepak.

She also questioned the attempts by the opposing factions of the AIADMK to convert the former CM’s residence into a memorial, saying the plan was “being carried out by those who are trying to take revenge against the two of us who are Jayalalithaa’s blood relatives”.

“Only Deepak and I are the legal heirs of all her [Jayalalithaa’s] properties. Any plan to convert this house into a memorial without getting proper permission from us is legally and morally wrong,” she said.

“What right does this ‘benami’ government of Sasikala have to take such decisions? If Sasikala resorts to such drama, I am ready to take legal action. I also urge this ‘benami’ government to work for the welfare of the people who voted for Jayalalithaa,” she added.
