Dedicated car parking yard for Ford at ChPT

Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) on Thursday allotted a dedicated car parking yard on its premises near gate no. 7 to car-maker Ford India. ChPT has been annually exporting 2.7 lakh cars, while Ennore Port Ltd (EPL) over 1.5 lakh cars. While Hyundai is the main customer for ChPT with an export of 2.5 lakh cars per annum, Nissan is the star performer for EPL.

Nissan entered into a 10-year agreement with Ennore Port last week to export up to 60,000 cars per annum.

According to official sources, ChPT has allotted 7,000 square metres of land to Ford on an 11-month lease.

At any given time, Ford can easily park 500 cars. Hyundai has been allotted 40,000 square metres of space near Ambedkar dock to park 5,000 cars. The dedicated facility was inaugurated by ChPT Chairman Atulya Misra and Ford India Managing Director and president Joginder Singh.

Mr. Misra it is a significant step towards providing access and accelerating export of Chennai-made Ford vehicles, including the all-new EcoSport.
