Death toll in house collapse rises to 7

The death toll in the collapse of a two-storeyed house on John Colony First Street at Gopalapuram in Kazhinjur town panchayat near Katpadi on Tuesday rose to seven on Saturday with the death of P. Bhoopalan (28) at Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital. While four persons belonging to a family — Punniyamoorthy (60), his wife Maheswari (58), daughter-in-law Sangeetha (26), and grand-daughter Kavitha (2), — died on the spot, Shivani, 6-month-old daughter of Bhoopalan, and P. Bhaskaran, died at the KMC Hospital on Thursday. Two other injured persons, Karthikeyan (32) and his wife Lavanya (28), are undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

The Vellore Collector on Friday ordered an inquiry by the Revenue Divisional Officer, into the accident. Geetha, RDO, Vellore, told The Hindu that she was yet to begin the inquiry.
