Director General of Police (DGP) T.K. Rajendran on Saturday urged police officers to politely listen to grievances of persons who came to them with complaints and initiate action as early as possible.

At a grievance redressal meeting for police personnel at the Rajarathinam Stadium, he said, “What you expect from us is expeditious redressal of your grievances. Likewise, you should hear grievances of the public politely and initiate action.”

The DGP has been holding region-wise grievance redressal meetings since last July. Along with Mr. Rajendran, City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan and other officials listened to the grievances of police personnel and disposed of petitions quickly.

Over 1,500 petitions were received on Saturday from various units in the city. Most of them wanted transfers to their hometowns while others wanted commutation of punishment, allotment of quarters and removal of anomalies in salary structure and compassionate ground appointments.

The petitions will be scrutinised on a priority basis, ofwficials said.
