Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, on Friday said the party will decide on alliance with DMDK after receiving report from its State leaders.
In a very brief interaction with reporters at Madurai airport, she said the BJP Tamil Nadu unit would have to first come out with its report and only then could the party discuss the issue at the national level before finalising the alliance.
“We have a different strategy for forging alliances and those things can’t be revealed to media,” she said before proceeding to Pamban from here. Meanwhile, senior leader and BJP national executive member L. Ganesan, who was present at the Pamban meeting, told The Hindu that there are “very positive signals’ from the DMDK with regard to alliance between the two parties in Tamil Nadu for forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
“Some common friends are working on this and informal feedback was that things are positive. I am optimistic and confident that the deal with DMDK will be through in a couple of days. Also, the alliance between the BJP and the DMDK could be announced during the visit of our Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi to Chennai on February 8,” Mr. Ganesan said.
According to him, it is only but natural for the DMDK to join hands with the BJP since Mr. Vijayakant has made an anti-corruption plank. “Their forthcoming conference is on the theme of fighting corruption. So, how can he ally with either the DMK or the AIADMK,” the BJP leader asked. State president of BJP Pon. Radhakrishnan, who met Ms. Swaraj here, echoed the view that there would be an electoral alliance between the two parties as there was “good progress” in the alliance talks.
