Dead woman’s identity established

The police have established the identity of a woman who was found dead with injuries on her head near Melpatti on Friday.

She has been identified as Sheba Anjum (35), a resident of Nariyampattu in Omarabad.

According to police, Anjum, wife of Iqbal, was working as a teacher in an Urdu school at Gudiyatham. She had left home on Thursday morning for work and did not return.

On Friday, passers-by found a woman’s body on the Palar riverbed between M.V. Kuppam and Kezhmurungai. On information, police personnel attached to the Melpatti station rushed to the spot.

Injuries

They found a woman with head injuries caused by stone and a few knife cuts on her body. A burqa and a red colour cloth bag were found nearby.

“We found a bus ticket in the bag. We traced the bus and inquired the conductor if a woman wearing burqa and possessing a red cloth bag was travelling in the bus. He told us she boarded the bus at Nariyampattu,” said a police officer.

Anjum travelled in the bus everyday at 7.30 a.m. Based on this information, the police inquired at the Nariyampattu bus stop and found that she lived in a house nearby.

“We also found a knife about 150 to 200 feet away from the body. Whether this knife was used to injure her is yet to be established. We are waiting for the medical report,” he added.
