The Tamil Nadu police on Tuesday night said the Cyber Crime Cell has been asked to investigate the hacking of its website by Anonymous, a ‘hacktivist’ group.
In a statement here, Director General of Police K. Ramanujam said no defacing of the police website had taken place. “Data in the grievances database relating to complaints received online from the public and action taken on them have been taken and published,” he said.
Mr. Ramanujam said security audit as prescribed had been done before data was posted on the website.
The National Informatics Centre, which maintains the Tamil Nadu police website as part of the State government’s website, was examining how the breach took place. “Cyber Crime Cell has been directed to take up investigation,” he said.
He said the intrusion was reportedly by Anonymous protesting against denial of access to certain websites by Internet service providers in pursuance of a copyright violation suit.

it is heard that there is no proper trained people is permanently posted in the uploading business allthe police people are engaged in the small offences only. Only 2% people are having the meager knowledge in the cyber crime. It is the duty of the government to enlighten the innocent public.
Internet is a free property. Why government is trying to leash it
without being transparent is questionable?
Although acts of DoS attacks and hacking are rogue, but the current
legal apparatus (IT Act 2000) will only be effective if the perpetrators are caught.
Formation of NTRO and NCTC would have countered such attacks, and
would have atleast enabled India to develop a strong mechanism to act
on such situations.
Websites are getting hacked and the number is increasing day by day.
It is an alarming situation, but will the government act lately as
usual or will be proactive.
I wish these hactivists or hackers were employed/deployed by a special
cell in India, which will enable India to have a breakthrough in cyber
security. Just an Idea. Jai Hind.
It is quite obvious that there is a limited information leaked, it seems that there are some persons or group of persons who may have had access to the complaints -the server maintenance/local police station where the complaint is forwarded to. The Police need to make a list of persons having access and swoop down on them and take strict action after knowing their motives. If not, Police would be a total failure in its duty of protecting their records and ensuring peoples safety.
