Custodial death of undertrial: magisterial inquiry on

A magisterial inquiry is being conducted into the death of a 34-year-old undertrial within hours after his remand in the sub-jail here.

The undertrial Chandran was arrested on Monday for theft and was remanded on Monday night. However, according to sources, Chandran had fainted on Tuesday morning, following which he was admitted to Dharmapuri Government Medical College Hospital.

The man died at the hospital.

According to police sources, Chandran had not eaten anything on Monday night, and had fainted on Tuesday morning, after which he was admitted to Government hospital.

An autopsy was conducted by a team of three doctors, and the man’s body was cremated by the police, in the presence of his wife Lakhsmi.

An FIR has been filed based on the complaint lodged by the officials of the sub-jail.
