Important files kept in the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the Thiruvalluvar University on the varsity campus in Serkadu near Katpadi were found burnt on Thursday.
P. Gunasekaran, Vice-Chancellor of the university, told The Hindu that the door of the V-C’s office was found broken open, the shelf of the personal assistant to the V-C tampered with and a portion of the files in the shelf burnt when the sweeper came to the university campus on Thursday morning.
The incident had occurred on a day when the enquiry committee constituted by the V-C was to enquire into the act of Vivekanandan, a non-teaching casual worker on suspension in running away from the university without revealing the password to access the information relating to the examinations, thus causing delay in the publication of the results of the university examinations in July this year.
M. Jayakumar, Registrar of the University said that the files kept on the top rack of the shelf which related to the enquiry had been completely burnt, while other files were partially burnt.
While the three members on the enquiry panel turned up on Thursday, Vivekanandan who was to be inquired into did not turn up for the enquiry.
Fingerprint experts visited the university campus and took fingerprints from the VC’s office and the shelf of the P.A. where the files were burnt.
University authorities are trying to ascertain the exact files which were missing and perhaps burnt. The university authorities were yet to file a police complaint in this connection till late in the evening, according to Nilavazhagan, Inspector of Police, Tiruvalam.
