Twenty-two foreign nationals who had been lodged at Palayamkottai Central Prison for the past 11 days after being arrested from the detained US-based ship were shifted to the Puzhal Central Prison on Wednesday.

Of the 35 persons arrested from ‘Seaman Guard Ohio’ and lodged at Palayamkottai Central Prison, 23 are foreign nationals.

Since the officials attached to the embassies of various countries have to meet their nationals in the prison, the arrested ship crew and the guards are being shifted to the Puzhal jail located in the outskirts of Chennai, which will make the embassy officials’ job easier, said sources in Palayamkottai Central Prison.

Led by ADSP, Tuticorin, Gnanasekaran, a 36-member armed team provided security to the foreign ship crew and guards.
