The district administration has opened crèches in four blocks in the district to take care of the children of working women.
The crèches have been opened with funds provided by the Central and State governments under the Integrated Child Development Scheme.
While the crèche in Perambalur has been opened on the district collectorate premises, the one in Veppur block has been started at the Kunnam anganwadi centre.
In Alathur block, crèches have been opened at Padalur Indira Colony anganwadi centre and at the anganwadi centre in Veppanthattai.
For the time being, anganwadi workers would take care of the children admitted in the crèches, sources said.
Till now, 41 children below the age of five years have been admitted in the crèches, which would function from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Staff sanctioned
The State government has issued an order sanctioning the post of a worker and a helper for each crèche opened in Perambalur district, a senior official said.
The crèches have started functioning from March 13 in all the four blocks in the district.
The district has 490 anganwadi centres where 11,000 children were being taken care of every day.
