Dearth of space at the Government Higher Secondary School in Avudaiyarkovil has been posing difficulties to both students and teachers.

Government High School for boys, Government High School for Girls (both up to SSLC) besides Government Higher Secondary School for Boys and Girls (Plus One and Plus Two courses) — these three schools function on the same campus.

With strength of the students rising to 2,500 in all, space has become a constraint in this school.

Parents of the students said that inadequate space at the school has forced students to park their bicycles on the road outside the school campus. Although a site was selected for the construction of a separate building for the higher secondary section, it is yet to materialise.

Officials of Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhiyan said that the school had been given priority for the construction of buildings.

Steps would be taken for obtaining allocation under the National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development-funded scheme for the construction of new buildings for the higher secondary section so that the present campus could be utilised for housing the Government Girls’ High School.
