Crack on rail delays trains

March 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - DINDIGUL:

A locomotive pilot of Chennai-bound Pandian Express detected a crack on the rails near Ambathurai railway station following which an alert was issued to other trains on Tuesday night.

When the train was approaching Ambathurai, the pilot saw a wide crack on the track, 200 feet ahead of the station. He immediately stopped the train and alerted the station official. A technical team rushed to the spot and temporarily rectified it to allow Pandian Express on its way.

Meanwhile, Pothigai Express, Nellai Express, Pearl City Express, Ananthapuri Express and a Hazrat Nizamuddin-bound train were detained at various stations for 15 to 30 minutes. With caution order, the trains were allowed to pass the problem spot at 10 km per hour.

Chennai-bound Vaigai Express and Madurai-Pollachi passenger train also passed the spot at low speed on Wednesday morning. Repair work was in progress, said railway officials.
