CPI(M) MLA told to sit on floor in court

August 30, 2012 11:56 pm | Updated 11:56 pm IST - CUDDALORE:

A judicial magistrate court’s direction to a CPI(M) MLA to sit on the floor caused flutters in the court premises on Thursday.

K. Balakrishnan, against whom an arrest warrant was pending, appeared before the Chidambaram Judicial Magistrate-I, Jaisankar, to get the warrant recalled. The magistrate ordered the MLA to sit on the floor.

When his lawyer pointed out that Mr. Balakrishnan was an MLA with a political standing of over four decades, the Magistrate told him that the law did not distinguish anyone on the basis of the positions held and all were equal before the law.
