The State committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday condemned the assault on its party members when they went to meet Dalits, who had been affected in a clash that broke out near Sellapatti in Madurai district recently.

In a statement, the party general secretary, G. Ramakrishnan, urged the government to initiate action against those who attacked the members.

He also demanded action against police officials who had failed to take action though complaints had been filed with them in a proper manner.
