CPI(M) cadres stage demonstration

The cadres of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a dharna on Semmangudi Road near Anna bus stand demanding the police to ensure safety of people’s lives and assets, here on Thursday.

The leaders who spoke at the agitation condemned the surge in crime rate in the district.

They alleged that incidents of house break-ins, thefts and chain snatching, had become a cause for concern.

They also alleged that police personnel were involved in conducting “kangaroo courts, usury, illegal sale of liquor and corruption was also rampant.

The agitation was presided over by S. Anthony, district committee member. S. Noor Mohamed and R. Leema Rose, former MLAs, and N. Murugesan, district secretary, spoke.
