November 07, 2017 01:03 am | Updated 08:50 am IST - TIRUCHI

Charging that it was the “laxity” of the government that led to the flooding of Chennai and many coastal areas of the State,CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan on Monday demanded a White Paper on the ₹506 crore spent on the kudimaramathu scheme.

Addressing media persons here after a tour of the delta districts, Mr. Mutharasan said the inundation of agricultural fields in Vedaranyam, Sirkazhi, Kollidam and Nannilam had been caused by blockage of irrigation canals, and the prevailing scenario was proof that the kudimaramathu scheme was only a hype. The Government has to spell out details of the expenditure it had claimed to have incurred for desilting the waterbodies.
