“Regular poojas by Podhu Dikshitars will not be affected’’

The CPI (M) on Monday made a strong case for bringing the administration of the Chidambaram temple under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department, arguing that the properties, temple tradition and 1000-year old architecture could be well maintained only by the government.

In a statement here, CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said the taking over of the administration would in no way interfere with the regular poojas performed by the Podhu Dikshitars of the temple.

He said though the arguments in the case in connection with the appointment of the Executive Officer (EO) was over in the Supreme Court, there was adequate time to submit the views of the government in writing.

“The government should make use of the opportunity and present its case effectively to retain the administration of the temple under its control,” Mr Ramakrishnan said.
